Q:  What are  your favorite things about shooting Sporting Clays?
A:  My favorite about sporting clays is meeting other people who love this sport as much as I do..

Q:  What is your favorite shooting venue?
A:  My favorite venue has always been the main event, but i am starting to like FITASC.

Q:  What has been your favorite shoot/event?
A:  I really like to shoot any event that that draws a lot of participants a large crowd is always exciting.

Q:  What is your favorite target presentation?
A:  My favorite target presentation is the springing teal. I like to shoot them on the way up. Having gained confidence I find myself fairly successful on these targets.

Q:  What is your least favorite target presentation?
A:  I have always hated long, slow incomers. My friends have a lot of laughs watching me miss.

Q:  What do you feel is your greatest challenge in Sporting?
A:  My greatest challenge has been staying focused. I have tried some pre-shoot routines which help a little, but I sometimes lose the intensity to stay with it.

Q:  What do you feel is your biggest accomplishment with regards to Sporting Clays?
A:  My biggest accomplishment was probably winning the western Canadian in Kamloops, B.C. or sneaking by some super shooters in the Arizona Open prelim.

Q:  What, if any, are your Sporting Clays goals?
A:  My sporting clays goals are to stay focused, have fun and enjoy the camaraderie of people on the same wave length.

Q:  Do you shoot sub-gauge events?
A:  Yes.  28 gauge is my favorite.

Q:  What is the one "gizmo" you find most useful when shooting?
A:  Its not really a gizmo, but I like humming Waylon Jennings songs between stations.

Q:  What advice would you give to someone just starting out?
A:  Pay attention to your shooting posture and don't let yourself overload on information.

Q:  Anything else we should know?
A:  Sure, I am probably the only red neck optician in Canada, with wild life pictures and mounted deer heads in his dispensary.

Webmaster's commentary:

I had the pleasure to meet Ed at one of the shoots at Ben Avery in 2010, as I had to invite him down to get his gun across the border.  He beat me pretty badly, but he brought me a couple hats, so it was cool.

This year he came back down for the Arizona Open, where he won HOA in the Prelim with a 98, besting the likes of Jon Kruger, Gebben Miles and Brad Kidd.  These are all National Champ-type folks, and Ed the Optician from Alberta hummed his Waylon Jennings through the Prelim and gave them all a proper shellacking!  At the Arizona Open, Ed shot AA1 in the Main Event, AA1 in the Friday 5-Stand, AA1 in the Saturday 5-Stand, AA2 on the Sunday 5-Stand, and AA2 in the FITASC event.  I can almost hear the Waylon at the next shoot!

As I've gotten to know Ed, he's proven to be a real gentleman, a heck of a nice guy, and he's very funny.  So I hope he finds his way back.

While it is true that Ed is not an AZ shooter, he makes his appearances, and I figure it'll be fun to get to know some of the out-of-state and out-of-country folks that come visiting.  So we'd love to see more non-AZ folks filling out the Shooter Questionnaire

I'm glad Ed took the time to submit his questionnaire.  Help keep the Featured Shooter feature going by filling out the "Shooter Questionnaire."
