Introduction to Sporting Clays Charity Event
December 10, 2005
Ben Avery Clay Target Center
Our first "Introduction to Sporting Clays" charity event is now in the books. And it was a big success! We had 98 new shooters complete a safety orientation and shoot a 5-station, 50- target
Sporting Clays course. With two $10 donations from non-shooters, we were able to contribute $510 to
Ronald McDonald House Charities of
Phoenix!
The day was filled with smiles. Friends had invited friends and enjoyed kidding each other when one missed a target and cheering when a target broke. Families were everywhere - moms and dads with their children, single parents with sons and daughters, adults who brought their older parents. Everywhere you looked there were smiles, laughter and "thanks for doing this...we're having a great time". Please check out the
photos ... you might find yourself in one of them!
We accomplished more than what we had set out to do. Our intention was to demonstrate
Sporting Clays - "golf with a shotgun" - and let participants know that it is safe, challenging, fun for all ages, and that there are many people willing to give a new shooter a helping hand. We did that, but we also created an opportunity for family and friends to become just a little bit closer.
The Board of Directors of the Arizona Sporting Clays Association, Inc. would like to thank all the ASCA volunteers who generously donated their time and experience. From the smiles and
non-stop talking about the positive shooter comments, it was clear that our volunteers got as much out of this experience as the shooters.
A special thanks to David McGaffee of the Ben Avery Clay Target Center - the host club for our event. And once again, thanks to all the volunteers and especially to all of our NEW
Sporting Clays shooters!
We hope to see you soon on a Sporting Clays course!
